How it works
Pace is time divided by distance. Choose what you want to work out, and fill in the other two: a distance and a time give your pace, a distance and a pace give your finish time, and a time and a pace give how far you'll get. Every answer is shown per kilometre and per mile, with the finish time at that pace for the mile, 5K, 10K, half marathon and marathon.
The same pace isn't the same effort everywhere. Hills, heat and wind all slow you down, so on a hilly course aim for an even effort rather than an even pace. The hill pace calculator shows how much, and the race time predictor shows what pace a recent race says you can hold for longer.
Questions
How do I work out my running pace?
Divide your time by the distance. 25 minutes for 5 km is 5:00 per kilometre; 50 minutes for 10 km is the same pace. The calculator does it for any distance, and gives the pace per mile as well.
What pace do I need for a sub-2 hour half marathon?
5:41 per kilometre, or 9:09 per mile, all the way. That's also the pace of a 4 hour marathon.
What pace is a 25 minute 5K?
5:00 per kilometre, or 8:03 per mile. A 30 minute 5K is 6:00 per kilometre.
What is a good running pace?
There isn't one pace that's good for everyone. What matters more is running most of your week easy: at a pace you could hold a conversation at, which for most runners is about a quarter slower than their 5K race pace. The race time predictor works out your easy pace from a recent race.
How do I convert pace per kilometre to pace per mile?
Multiply by 1.609. 5:00 per kilometre is 8:03 per mile. Type a pace in either and the calculator shows both.
Does the pace allow for hills?
No, it's the pace on the flat. The same effort runs slower uphill and quicker down: the hill pace calculator shows by how much, and the route planner allows for every hill on a route.
